Canadian creator Chester Brown made his debut with Yummy Fur, first self-published in 1983, and then later picked up by both Vortex Comics and Drawn and Quarterly. Yummy Fur was the first place to feature his Ed the Happy Clown strips, telling bizarre and surreal stories about the title character.
Brown has since moved on to more autobiographical comics, including The Playboy and I Never Liked You, creating stories about his childhood, his obsession with pornography and his mother’s schizophrenia. Other works include Underwater and Louis Riel: A Comic Strip Biography.
On June 18, 2011, Brown will be an inductee into the Canadian Comic Book Creator Hall of Fame, at the Joe Shuster Awards in Calgary.
