Over 300 cartoonists and independent publishers are exhibiting at SPX 2011, representing diverse social, cultural, and educational backgrounds, ethnicities, approaches to cartooning and storytelling, artistic styles and literary modes.

Several times in 2011, though, gender diversity in comics has come under particular scrutiny. Despite appearances, a myriad of talented women cartoonists are out there, producing compelling, idiosyncratic work in every literary and artistic genre.
